Dog Sledding

Cold baron landscape
few dare to chalenge
trekking across frozen land
Exhausted dogs tame the frozen snow
Basic comands control your journey
The humble beast eager to continue
We ride the trails with speed and endurance
The thin and mighty frame of curved wood
Panting dogs and crunching snow
The only sound I hear
As the sleek runners streak across the surface
A relationship of trust
The team leads my journey
As I control the pace
The day comes to an end after much work has been done
The dogs proud and satisfied
Eagerly waiting for the next day.

A Man and His Past

I am a man,
37 is my age,
I remember back to my early twenties,
When I was first called a man.
I felt free,
On my own,
A new person.

Being a man comes with responsibility,
I have no guidance,
I have to be mature,
Be a role model,
Be my own person,
But, I guess that is what makes me a man.

As a boy you are told who to love,
You live your whole childhood receiving love,
So inevitably,
You give some back.
Now that I am free, I am free to love,
And I can love with my heart,
And choose who likes me for me, as my parents did.
I wish to have fun and hang out with my friends,
I wish I was a kid again…

I am a boy,
I am 13,
I feel old,
As a teen, I should be able to choose my own path,
Follow my own rules,
I’m restricted,
Stuck with the same old rules,
It’s like my age never strayed from 12.

Being a teen is tough,
I’m supposed to take everything so seriously,
All the adults think school is
The most important thing for a kid.
We just want to relax, hang back and have fun.
I’ve out grown the “child playing on the playground” days.
I am ready to step up,
I am ready to be a man.
37 is my age.
